Overdraft Fee on Pending Charge

Why did I get charged an overdraft fee for a pending charge? It hadn't gone through yet!

when the bank enters a pending charge they deduct the money at the point of sale it only says pending until midnight when the banks computers updates the time, then all transactions are made current
